Pollution: Types and Ways to control pollution

Addition of harmful elements into the environment which causes adverse affects on plants and animals is known as pollution.

According to Britinnica, Pollution, also called environmental pollution, the addition of any substance (solidliquid, or gas) or any form of energy (such as heat, sound, or radioactivity) to the environment at a rate faster than it can be dispersed, diluted, decomposed, recycled, or stored in some harmless form.

Pollutants: The harmful substances which causes pollution are known as pollutants.

For example: Carbon monoxide, Nitrogen dioxide, Ozone, Sulphur dioxide, Solid waste etc.

Pollution are of various types but we will be studying the three main types of pollution here.

  1. Air Pollution
  2. Water Pollution
  3. Noise Pollution
Air Pollution: Addition of harmful gases into air is known as Air pollution.

Sources of Air Pollution:

  •  Smoke from Industries
  •  Burning of fossil fuels(Vehicles etc.)
  •  Burning of woods

2.     Water Pollution: Addition of harmful substances into water which contaminates the water is known as water pollution.

Sources of Water Pollution:

  • Sewage water
  • Dumping of household waste into water bodies
  • Dumping of Industrial waste into water bodies

3.     Noise Pollution: Prolonged exposure to high intensity of sound (Sound intensity greater than 70 decibel) causes noise pollution.

     Sources of Noise Pollution:

  • Traffic Noise
  • Air Traffic Noise
  • Construction sites
  • Electrical Generators
  • Explosions
